The
South Course is the main championship course at La Manga Club, it hosts
a number of competitions as well as having hosted the Spanish Open five
times and many other major competitions.
A current handicap certificate is required to play this course. The South
Course is long, not by today's professional standards, but by us mere
mortal standard's it is long enough, measuring around 7150 yards (6499
metres) from the white tees, with a par and standard scratch of 73 (from
the yellow tees). It is designed in a parkland style, with fairways lined
with many palm trees all waiting to interfere with your next shot and
containing many lakes, wide barranca and bunkers just to add to the difficulty.
The 18th is
where Arnold Palmer made an eagle 3 to win the Spanish Open back in 1975,
this hole also finishes outside the Hyatt Hotel.
Major
maintenance
work on the South Course has now been completed and what a gem has now
been produced. It has most definatley been worth the long wait for completion
of the maintenance work.
South Course Maintenance:
April 21st to 25th 2008: Whole course closed
September 22nd to 26th 2008: Whole course closed
